During the 2012 Missouri General Assembly session, I worked as an Legislative Media intern for the Associated Students of the University of Missouri, a lobbyist organization that represented the interests of students on all four UM campuses: Missouri S&T, UMSL, UMKC and MU
It was the perfect internship to converge my journalism background and my interest in state public policy. I was responsible for meeting with legislators, introducing them to our legislative platform, and finding bill carriers and co-sponsors for our legislation. In addition, I managed the ASUM twitter, Facebook, website, organized letter-writing campaigns, and designed and wrote a weekly newsletter that had a circulation of over 300. It has been great to experience life as a lobbyist in Missouri, as well as develop a background in public relations.
