Journalism is an ever-evolving industry, and the multi talented backpack journalist is becoming the norm. Reporters well-versed in traditional journalism and multimedia journalism are filling the proverbial void in newsrooms.

That is why I choose to study convergence journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Convergence journalism is the journalism of the future, and with a well-rounded education of convergence journalism, I am a valuable asset. My experience with photojournalism, radio, broadcast and print journalism through programs such as Adobe Audition, Final Cut Express, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver give me the tools to tell each story in an appropriate and unique way.

Going to the Missouri School of Journalism, home of the renowned "Missouri Method", allows me the opportunity to gain real-world newsroom experience.  Last semester I reported for KBIA, an NPR affiliate; the "Columbia Missourian", a community print and digital newspaper with a circulation of 6,000; and Newsy, an award-winning multiplatform news analysis service.

This semester I am working as a Legislative Media Intern for the Associated Students of the University of Missouri, representing the UM-System students and our legislative platform in Jefferson City Each week.

I am also studying political science to supplement my journalism education. I have a keen interest in pursuing political or business reporting. I have had experience in both fields during my time in three professional Columbia newsrooms, and my background in political science provides an extended education into the intricacies of public policy in state and local governments.
